Sometimes an artist comes along to either enrich the exisiting qualities of a song or to bring out hidden meanings of a composition, like Tori Amos with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" or Jimi Hendrix with "All Along the Watchtower". In my view, Paula and the arranger have done just that with 'Berimbaum'. The electronic arrangements make the already gorgeous compositions shimmer and undulate. And while Paula may not have the emotional range of an Elis Regina, her voice is exquisite and sweet without being saccharine. It also bears testament to the flexibility of de Moraes' lyrics and the music of Carlos Lyra, Baden Powell. and others. "Primavera" is beyond beautiful.
  • Just Standards

This is a good artist. My only problem is these songs are just standards. You can easily find ten are twenty albums just like this, the singer just as sweet and the music just as in time. Brazil has far more interesting music. Check out Azymuth, The Ipanemas, some of the stuff on Gilles Peterson's in brazil selections, Sabrina Malheiros, or Joyce to name a few. Nonetheless, this is a good album.

Sublime! The intricate rhythms get into your pores and your blood stream to sweep you out of the ordinary into an alluring atmosphere. The top layer of sound is Paula Morelenbaum's bewitching voice. Every album she and her husband is on is on is a must!
  • Jovial and passionate music...

Light and airy cotton candy-style music seductively infused with passion that you would expect from a Brazilian Diva. Paula Morelenbaum weaves a musical tapestry for us and transports us to far away sultry beaches and the carnival of Rio de Janeiro. The song Voce e Eu (You and I) is more modern in style, but heavily accented by traditional samba-notes, whereas Brigas Nunca Mais is an acid-jazz-meets-pure-bossa-nova tune that is pleasing to the ears. Highly reccomended cd containing a wonderful collection of songs, not to be missed.
